A New Year And A Twelve Year Old Couch

So I figure I should quit neglecting my blog. It seems to be getting kind of lonely. And now that I'm used to the day schedule I have no excuse but sheer laziness.

Rewind. New Years Eve; Saturday. We ended up taking our time that morning, messing around and then taking dog to the boarding place just in time - it was right before noon. After that we stopped at our favorite Mexican restaurant for some grub before heading back to the house to pack up the rest of our stuff.

We were on the road at around 2 or 2:30, which was cool because it was only a three hour drive and the couple we were meeting, A & R, weren't going to be there until later either. It was a nice, uneventful drive up to the nearby city. We got to the hotel and one of my friends called and said we were welcome to stay at his place. He hadn't known we were coming up until the last minute, which was my fault. At any rate, we called A & R and asked if they wanted to stay there instead. They said sure. We called the hotel and they were somewhat pricks about the whole thing and told us if we did that we would still have to pay the entire two night's stay anyway as it was a holiday weekend. Whatever, we stayed at the hotel.

It was a fun night. We started out walking around the downtown area and going to a really cool brewery to eat. While we were waiting on a table the 'A' of A & R and I played a game of pool and drank the brewery's wonderful seasonal porter. When we got to the table and got our food we were pleasantly surprised that a brewery could have such wonderful grub! The appetizer was a bit cold, but man, the food was kick ass. Good food, good beer, good night.

After leaving the brewery it was time to meet up with my friend who lives there. We met up with him at a really cool bar which we love (franchise) and has tons of beers on tap. MMmmm. Can't beat it. It was such a great night all in all - I met up with several people from college whom I hadn't seen in years. It was great - just like the old days. Midnight came and went, as did several pints of ale; hey, it was new year's.

Sunday we woke up, got out of the hotel room, and went to this Irish Pub of some sort for lunch. Service was absolutely terrible, but the food was great. Our server kept explaining that our order was wrong, delayed, wrong, and then delayed because the cook had just quit and the people in the kitchen didn't know what they were doing. That's understandable, except that I wouldn't expect an order of salad would be confusing to the most novice of kitchen personnel. Are my standards of good service exceedingly high?

Sunday night we met up with my college friend again, as well as R's (yes, of A & R) little brother. He turned 21 on New Year's of all times, and was still celebrating. Man, the beer in this town was unreal. Yet another bar with tons of beers on tap - good beers - not those beers made by the assembly lines. These beers were brewed.

Monday, the day off from work, ended up being sort of mundane. It was cool, but too blah... We ended up getting woken up by the maid, who informed us so nicely we had to be out in an hour. We scrambled to pack up all our stuff and get cleaned up before saying our goodbye's to A & R and heading back home. On our way, we detoured by a nearby town and saw yet another college roomie of mine. He is now married and is in a wonderful new home. It was great to see that he and his wife are doing so well and that house of theirs is kickin' - in a few years they're going to be featured on MTV cribs - right after it's completely furnished :) Two years after that, MTV is coming to my crib, which will be right after I get mine completely furnished. (Hey, what's wrong with having a twelve year old couch? It's cozy!)

We got back to town, picked up the dog, and came to the house. Ahhhh, home. It was nice to relax.

Fast forward. Work week. Blah.

This past weekend was awesome. Take all that stuff I wrote above, all of it.....and delete it. You get a lot of white space. Well actually it would be tan on this blog, but you get the picture. That's what we did. Sweet right? Technically, I did go play nine holes on Saturday afternoon and another eighteen on Sunday, but who's counting. At any rate, that wouldn't count because it was fun and I consider it to be part of the big realm of 'awhhh nuthin' anyway. (As in "What did you do this weekend?" - "Awwh nuthin."

Well, I guess I'm all caught up. Now I need to quit being lazy, get off my twelve year old couch and keep up.
